Dr. S. Barry Eiden, medical director and founder of NSVC
Dr. Eiden has been asked to serve on the contact lens council of the Cornea and Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association. This highly respected group of leaders and experts in the contact lens field functions as the “voice of contact lenses” to eye care professionals and to the contact lens wearing public. One of the most recent activities of the council has been to bring public awareness to the problems of Fusarium fungal eye infections associated with the use of certain soft contact lens solutions. The actions of the council saved countless eyes that could have lost vision if this critical information was not made public.
Dr. Eiden continues his frequent involvement as a lecturer and author in the field of contact lenses, eye disease treatment, and refractive eye surgery. He has presented lectures recently at meetings in Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He has published articles in a number of respected professional journals over the past year as well.
On a personal note, Dr. Eiden has been very busy with his 3 children (Jeff 16, Danny 13, and Lauren 11). Jeff just got his driver’s license and Dr. Eiden noted a number of new grey hairs growing on his head the week after!
Dr. Darin Strako, director of pediatrics and binocular vision services, NSVC
Dr. Strako has been strongly involved in the “Infant See” program of the American Optometric Association. He was interviewed on topics relating to infant vision and eye care that aired on NBC’s today show. Dr. Strako is providing free infant eye screenings at NSVC as part of the Infant See program.
Dr. Strako recently moved into a new condominium in Wrigglyville just so he can observe what is going on with the Cubs. Dr. Strako is a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, being born and raised in southern Illinois and he needs to keep an eye on “the enemy”!
Paula Wrobel, director of Visions Optique, the optical service of NSVC
Paula has been very busy setting up the optical departments at our Deerfield and Park Ridge offices along with help from her associate opticians. She has brought in numerous new and exciting lines of frames from manufacturers and designers worldwide. She continues her ongoing education as a board certified optician (ABOC) by taking courses and conducting continuing education programs in order to bring her patients the latest in technologies in the optical field.
Paula recently became engaged to be married (sorry all of you men out there who lost out!). Paula’s fiancé, Mike, is a successful business man and entrepreneur. We are all so happy for Paula.
