Dr. Eiden, serving as Vice Chair of the Cornea and Contact Lens Council of the American Optometric Association recently visited Congressman Boosman of Arkansas, who is sponsoring a bill that would control the sale of contact lenses without a valid prescription.

Numerous reports of patients suffering eye damage following receipt of contact lenses without a current or valid prescription from their eye doctor have been received by the FDA and FTC. Most of these cases were associated with internet distributors of contact lenses who routinely sell contact lenses to their customers without first obtaining a valid prescription for the lenses.

Dr. Eiden and the council he serves on have been instrumental in the development of a bill that would levy heavy fines on those entities that distribute contact lenses to the public without valid prescriptions.
