EyeMed Vision Plan is one of the fastest growing vision plans. EyeMed has a large number of programs that provide either discounted fees or reimbursements for routine, non-medical vision care services and materials. EyeMed may be purchased by your employer as a separate employee benefit, or it may be a rider on your medical health insurance plan.
Some of the EyeMed plans simply provide a percentage discount off of usual and customary fees at the practice. Other EyeMed plans have more elaborate and extensive coverage that provides allowances and/or discounts on glasses, contact lenses, and vision care services.
There are many EyeMed vision care plans available. NSVC DOES NOT PARTICIPATE IN ALL EYEMED PLANS. Some EyeMed plans provide very low reimbursement to participating vision care providers. As such, NSVC has had to select which EyeMed plans that we can afford to participate in.
It is critical that you inform our office staff at the time you schedule your appointment that you have EyeMed. This enables our staff to contact EyeMed in advance of your scheduled visit to obtain your specific benefits description and to determine if NSVC participates in your specific EyeMed plan.
Depending on the specifics of your EyeMed plan, contact lens professional services may or may not be a covered expense. A contact lens diagnostic evaluation is not considered part of a routine comprehensive eye examination by EyeMed. The fee for the contact lens diagnostic evaluation will vary according to complexity of the case. Some EyeMed plans cover both a comprehensive eye examination and a contact lens diagnostic evaluation. Other EyeMed plans do not cover the diagnostic evaluation, and it must be paid by the member. If a new material or design of contact lens is fit there is a need for professional contact lens after care or follow up care to make sure that the lenses are functioning properly in terms of vision, comfort, and eye health response. The fees for contact lens after care also vary according to the complexity of the specific case involved. After care or follow up care is typically not paid for by EyeMed and is also an out of pocket expense on the part of the member. Most EyeMed plans provide some sort of benefit for contact lens materials. This would be in the form of either a dollar "allowance", which varies from plan to plan, and/or a percentage discount from usual and customary contact lens material fees.
No matter what your specific EyeMed contact lens benefit, you can be assured that NSVC, the preeminent contact lens practice in the greater Chicago area, will provide you with the highest quality of care as it relates to contact lens services and materials.
Most EyeMed plans provide coverage for either contact lenses or glasses NOT BOTH. In cases where you may desire to purchase both contact lenses and glasses, NSVC will extend a 20% discount on glasses if you have used your EyeMed contact lens allowance for your contact lens materials.
Medical eye care services are not covered by EyeMed. If you require medical eye care services we will work along with your medical insurance carrier to help you receive your maximum benefit. Examples of conditions covered under medical coverage include; diagnosis and treatment of eye infections, injuries, glaucoma, retina problems, etc. As an added service to you, NSVC through its insurance billing and coding service, will submit all medically related eye service claims directly to your medical insurance carrier for you at no charge! If we are preferred providers in your medical plan then we will accept direct payment from the carrier, if we are not, we will still submit the claim for you after you pay for your services directly to our office. Insurance payment will then be made to you directly from your carrier.
